Eevi Kinnunen & Tasha Hess-Neustadt
Eevi Kinnunen (they/he/she) and Tasha Hess-Neustadt (they/them) have been working together for over five years in different constellations. They began working together during their Bachelors at London Contemporary Dance School. Together they co-direct Riiviöt.
They premiered their first shared production Super We, Super Me in September 2022, a piece aimed at young audience, 6-9 years old, exploring how to make queer-inclusive and queer educational children’s dance. Super We, Super Me was co-produced by Offensive Tanz für Junges Publikum Berlin, and presented outdoors in the site-specific platform for dance for young audience RAUSGEHEN, Apfelsinenplatz in Berlin Gropiusstadt.
Riiviöt re-worked a stage version of Super We, Super Me, which premiered May 2023 at TEHDAS Teatteri - Turku Finland, in the frame of ‘Bodybuilding’ Festival. They played four guest performances at TANZKOMPLIZEN im Podewil Berlin, June 2023.
Additionally, 2022-2023 Eevi & Tasha toured together as performers in the dance and vocal work Empire of a Faun Imaginary, choreographed by Simone Mousset, in the UK, France & Luxembourg - influencing a shared vocal and performance practice.
In fall 2023, the collective received a research grant from the Berlin Senat to continue their research on queer children’s dance; the project was undertaken in residencies at TANZKOMPLIZEN and FELD Theater, winter 2024.
Currently Riiviöt is organizing a school tour of SWSM in Savonlinna, publishing a zine about their research on queering children's dance, and working on new upcoming projects.
Lisa Kalkowski
Lisa Kalkowski (she/her) joined the Riiviöt-collective this past spring 2024 as a producer. Lisa has many years of experience in the performing arts, particularly in dance. Riiviöt’s artistic approach and ethical context meet Lisa’s core values in her work, which is why she is especially excited about her new role within the collective! Having spent much of her career in the Finnish art scene, this position also allows her to reconnect with Berlin, where she studied. Lisa is also the producer of UrbanApa art platform and works freelance with DEI workshops and project coordination.
