LOT

Riess Neustadt Collective (Fabian Riess & Tasha Hess-Neustadt)

LOT is a dance performance on construction and decay. Two performers interplay with their environment - a dystopian space, encompassed by a circular audience reminiscent of an arena. Across long breadths of silence broken by cracking lava stone and nostalgic E-guitar melodies, the two dancers inhabit repetitive swinging movements in trance-like synchronism with a moving pendulum, represented as a wrecking ball.

Riess Neustadt magnify minute details and gradual evolutions through somatic movement in a morphing physical interdependence. LOT plays with cyclical fantasies of transformation and destruction in relation to the political contemporary.

Meaning is lost in bleached and subverted symbols of a capitalist anthropocene. The timeless environment contemplates emptiness; a search for closeness and intimacy, or action and autonomy. Movement becomes the measure of temporality.

Out of this void emerges an impulse for acceleration, a fantasy to reappropriate the constancy of our systems.
