Queering Children's Dance

research project and zine

Queering Children’s Dance is a research project developing practices of performance and pedagogy in dance for young audience from queer perspectives. Riiviöt addresses topics such as the forms of queer content and practice in our work; the development of participation and facilitation methods for young people leading with consent and empowering autonomy; the development of inclusion and accessibility measures enveloping the performance and mediation experience.

The research phase, funded by the Berlin Senat Work and Research Stipend, was a reflection on Riiviöt’s first dance production for young audience Super We, Super Me, as well as a working period to connect with other artists working on related topics, and to build and share skills, strategies, and dreams for the future of Riiviöt’s work with young audience. The self-published zine Queering Children’s Dance is a compilation of this research project.
